The Australian Government's National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides a free flu vaccines to the following eligible Medicare card holders:
People aged 65 and older
Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
People aged 6 months and older with certain medical conditions that increase their chance of severe influenza and its complications
Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years old (not available in pharmacy)

RSV
Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) is a common virus that can cause a range of severe respiratory illnesses.
Who is recommended to receive an RSV vaccination?
Pregnant women at 28-36 weeks gestation
All adults aged 75 years and older
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 60 – 74 years
Adults aged 60 to 74 years with medical conditions that increase their risk of severe disease due to RSV, such as:
Cardiac disease
Chronic respiratory conditions
Immunocompromising conditions
Chronic metabolic disorders
Chronic kidney disease (stage 4 or 5)
Chronic neurological conditions
Who is eligible for a free RSV vaccination?
Effective from Monday 3rd February 2025, the Australian Government’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) will provide one free RSV vaccine to the following eligible people:.
Pregnant women (at any age) at 28-36 weeks gestation

Whooping Cough Vaccination
Whooping cough (Pertussis) is a contagious bacterial infection. Immunisation is recommended for adults in close contact with infants.
Who is recommended to receive a whooping cough vaccination?
Infants, children and adolescents as part of National Immunisation Program schedule
Adults who are travelling overseas and have not had a booster in the last 10 years
Adults who are in special risk groups or incontact with a special risk group, such as:
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
Healthcare workers
Early childhood educators and carers
People in close contact with infants
Who is eligible for a free whooping cough vaccination?
The Australian Government’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free whooping cough vaccines to the following eligible Medicare card holders:
Pregnant women (ideally between 20-32 weeks of pregnancy)

Shingles Vaccination
Herpes zoster is the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus in patients who have previously had chicken pox.
Shingles vaccination is a 2-dose course, given 2 to 6 months apart in healthy people, or 1 to 2 months apart in people who are immunocompromised.
Who is recommended to receive a Shingles vaccination?
People aged 50 years and over
People aged 18 years and over who are immunocompromised
People aged 50 years and over who live in the same household as someone who has a weakened immune system
Who is eligible for a free Shingles vaccination?
The Australian Government’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides two free Shingles vaccines to the following eligible people:
People aged 65 years and over
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over
Immunocompromised people aged 18 years and over with the following medical conditions:
Haematopoietic stem cell transplant
Solid organ transplant
Haematological malignancy

Meningococcal disease is a rare but life-threatening disease. The meningococcal ACWY immunisation is available to individuals over 15 years of age in Victoria.
Who is recommended to receive a Meningococcal vaccination?
Infants
Children
Adolescents and young adults
Special risk groups, including:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
People with eligible medical conditions
Laboratory workers who frequently handle Neisseria meningitidis
Travellers
Young adults who live in close quarters or who are current smokers.
Who is eligible for a free Meningococcal ACWY vaccination?
The Australian Government’s National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides free Meningococcal ACWY vaccines to the following eligible Medicare card holders:
Children aged 12 months (not available in pharmacy)
Adolescents aged 14-16 years (primarily delivered through school-based vaccination programs)
People of all ages with asplenia and hyposplenia, complement deficiency and those receiving treatment with eculizumab.
